The King

The King, scripted by Renji Panikkar, was released in 1995 and was directed by Shaji Kailas. Mammootty played the central character as a District collector. On those days movie created waves in kerala box office like recent block bluster ‘Rajamanikyam’. This is the first movie released in more than 40 centers in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Electrifying performance and dialogues from mammootty attracted huge crowd. It was the only best movie for classes and masses at that year. The King broken the box office record of Malayalam film industry and become biggest grosser of Malayalam history in 1995.

King collected more than Mohanlal flick, spadikam which is the second highest hit in 1995. The King ran more than 100 days in 7 theaters in kerala with huge crowd. Movie got more collection in Trivandrum, Dhanya and Ernakulam, Shenais.

  2. @filmindia.TVM Dhanya Remya -KING grossed 20+ lkhs, spadhikam grossed 14 lks? .You can call DHANYA REMYA and check if u know anyone there who was employed at that time/ check with NANA office.KING is the biggest grosser by a mile considering all Kerala Gross. KING was the first film which ran in 40 release stations for 35 days in RS. It completed 50 days in all release stations with NS in 4 or 5 stations!
    Other big hit of 95 was the classic "Mazhayethum munpe".

  3. mr.filmindia...don't be a fool...atleast accept the real fact..King was biggest in 1995 than spadikam...in pala,kottayam, malabar area also king collected well....you know mammootty's most of all hit movies run more than 100 days in lal citadel, tvm...what abt lal in malabar area?
    ....poor rite...:)...
    40% of collection of malayalam movies from malabar....

    plz dont be a fool..
    can u proove that any ikka film has better collection in malabar than tvm and eranakulam???..
    i can show many collection reports showing dat ikka movies collects its best from tvm and eranakulam.

  5. Vesham, collected more than 80 Lakhs from Calicut.
    so many movie..OVG ran 250 days in calicut...Bus conductor, Dadasahib..so many movies collected well..
    ..Even malapuram even B and C class his movies get hug collection.....
